Founded in 1991, Boston City Campus is a leading private higher education institution in South Africa, offering a wide range of programmes including postgraduate qualifications, degrees, diplomas, higher certificates, and short learning courses.

With a strong focus on practical, career-oriented education, Boston City Campus continuously evolves its learning environments to equip students with real-world skills and hands-on experience.

To support this approach, the institution required a purpose-built recording studio environment that would enable high-quality audio production, teaching, and content creation.

Strategy & Approach

Audionote designed and built a fully functional recording studio, tailored to meet both educational and technical requirements.

The solution focused on creating an acoustically controlled environment, ensuring optimal sound isolation and audio clarity. A floating floor system was implemented to minimise vibration transfer, followed by the construction of a sealed inner room shell using gypsum soundproofing boards and dense insulation.

Once the structure was complete, attention shifted to airflow, electrical, and lighting systems, ensuring the space remained comfortable and fully functional without compromising acoustic performance.

Acoustic treatment was then applied, including bass traps and absorption panels, to eliminate unwanted frequencies and reflections. The studio was completed with the installation of professional recording equipment, creating a space ready for both teaching and production use.

The result is a purpose-built, acoustically optimised recording studio & Audio-Visual solution that supports hands-on learning, content creation, and high-quality audio production, equipping students with practical skills in a professional studio setting.
